makeup, dark skin, laura mercier, lancome, nars

I tweeted a few weeks ago how amazing Nars radiant creamy concealer is... I couldn't believe how many people agreed with me. I was late to jump on that bandwagon but I'm happy I did.

I decided to write about the products I use on days when I do wear makeup

I'm sooo NOT the heavy makeup, double stacked lashes, highlight/blush/contour for everyday girl but I do like when having a clean, natural-ish barely there makeup look. I've finally defined products that work for me, don't break me out and I don't think I'll change it anytime soon. Below are a list of the products I use and how I use them.

1. MUFE Mattifying Primer - I use this on my t-zone and I really like the texture of the primer. It doesn't completely prevent oiliness, but you definitely will not be oily for the first couple of hours after applying. I refuse to believe that there is any product that can stop ALL oiliness and the ones that claim to, haven't done a good job for me. This is probably going to be a staple product going forward.

2. Beautyuk all in one brow definition kit - We all know how expensive brow pencils can be - I mean good brow pencils! I was a sucker for MAC Spiked and I know a few people have succumbed to Anastasia Beverly Hills' brow tools. Call me cheap but it was getting a bit ridiculous spending ≠13-15 on a brow pencil.
My sister told me about this kit so long ago, when my last Spiked pencil ran out, I just refused to buy another one. I reached for this kit and I've been using it ever since. Theres 3 different shades of brown and a wax, also includes small tweezers and a small angled brush. I use the small brush to fill in my brows, its quick and simple and it doesn't go oily/waxy which is what the Spiked pencil used to do. It used to be so embarrassing when someone would take a picture of me and my eyebrows looked like they were melting. Thumbs up from me!

3. LA Girl pro conceal (Shade - Beautifully bronze) - I use this concealer to cover my dark spots. I have tried the orange concealer but I don't like it much. I'm still playing around with it but I prefer the coverage from this hade over the orange. I've also tried MAC correction concealer in Peach Lustre, I prefer this corrector but again the LA girl concealer just gives a bit more coverage.

4. Lancome Teint Idole 24h Foundation (13) - If you're a reader of my blog you already know how I feel about this foundation. Uhhh its just perfection! I've tried so many foundations and I end up giving them away or looking at them with disappointment because it was expensive and I only used it once. (UK stores need to become a bit more flexible with return policies for foundation when they clearly haven't been used 'extensively'). I've digressed - this foundation is great.

5. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (13) - I had actually written this foundation off, I always looked oily and I just didn't like how much it would transfer. Well, its been really cold in London these past few months and my usually oily skin became so dry. I decided to reach for this as the Lancome was making my face feel a bit tight and I was impressed. If you have dry skin, this foundation could possibly become your staple. It leaves such a nice finish and feels really light on the face. I haven't used it in a couple weeks as my skin has gone back to its oily self and Lancome has taken over but this foundation is one to consider if you want to give your usual foundation a break.

6. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (Amande) - Ooooohhh *MakeupShayla's voice* when I say I love this concealer. Literally, where have I been? I can't even remember what I used to use but I know I wasn't truly happy with it. Oh wait - I used to use the concealer palette from MAC and hit pan but I didn't want to repurchase and I'd been using LA girl concealer for the time being but aint God good... aint He good?! I was seeing too many of my fave youtubers using this concealer and decided to buy it on a whim. I can't even describe it properly but its smooth, light, doesn't crease and the shade Amande is perfect. I don't really go too light for my under eye or under the brow but it works for me. I'm not buying another concealer, I can assure you this is not a waste of money. As long as you can find your correct shade you won't regret purchasing.

7. Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (Translucent) - I set my highlight with this powder and I don't really need to as my concealer hardly creases but just for extra security - why not! FYI - I never bake with setting powders, I don't like the way it looks on me. I had different Ben Nye shades (Banana, Sienna, Topaz) and whenever I used to 'bake' with them my face always looked harsh. People complain about 'banana' on darker skin tones but I truly believe its because a) people apply way too much b) baking. I apply the setting powder wherever its needed and use my beauty blender to press into my skin. Theres no flashback with this Laura Mercier powder but again I don't bake with it and I also don't use a bucket load. A little goes a long way.

8. Sleek Contour Kit (Dark) - I've got the old contour kit and a backup which should last me a while. On days where I'm feeling extra or my face just looks round - I'll lightly contour my nose and cheeks. I said 'lightly' because there was one time I tried to contour and my bestie hasn't lived it down since. Contour was so harsh lool! Anyway - this kit does the job and its inexpensive.

9. Mary Kay Brow Gel (Clear) - I received this brow gel as a freebie because I had spent some money with Mary Kay a while back. I don't use much of the products any more but I still reach for this gel. Sets my brows in place. I dare anyone to try and wipe them off *rolls eyes*. I do believe clear mascara could work in the same way but I'm using this until it runs out. For such a small tube it has lasted a long time.

10. Benefit They're Real mascara - L.O.V.E this mascara. My lashes are long but quite thin so it really adds definition and length. I read a blogpost about lashes and the best wands to use for your lash type. Apparently the wand from this mascara is perfect for people whose lashes are hard to reach/hard to comb through. When this tube finishes i'm going to use the wand in another mascara tube to see if it has the same effect and I'll report back to you. The mascara isn't cheap so if theres a way to save a few coins - I'll do it!

11. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish (Dark Deep) - I use this on days where my makeup application has gone a bit wrong. Everyone has those days. I just sweep a big powder brush over my face and it brings everything together. It can be used alone which I was doing previously but it oxidises orange and thats a no from me. Apart from that - its okay, does the job!

Thats a lot ay! If you've come to the end of the post - congratulations!

Until next time :)
